We at Doubling Gap Church of God were very blessed to be able to hold a special dedication service on Sunday, September 8, 2002. As our country goes through this special week in it’s history, the anniversary of 9-11-01, we had the privilege of dedicating a new flagpole which now proudly stands in front of our bethel. We believe it is a tribute to God as well as to our country. God has blessed us all with the gift of living in the United States, and hence he has called us to use this blessing to serve others who are less fortunate, and he has called us to be good citizens.
We will be flying the Christian flag along with the American flag as a statement of who we are. As believers in Jesus Christ our allegiance is to him, and as United States citizens we also have allegiance to our country. Many persons from our congregation have served the country just as we all serve Christ so we wanted this to be a tribute to them as well. The flagpole was a gift from our church Women’s Ministries group in memory of three special ladies who went on to eternity in the past year: Ida Hoover, Mary Salisbury, and Virginia Yohe, all of whom were involved in Women’s Ministry. Memorial contributions, which were sent to the church, were used to purchase the pole and flags.
Pastor Trevor lead the dedication service and was joined by three members for the flag raising ceremony. Lorrie Henneman, Women’s Ministries representative, David Angle, Administrative Council President, and Lester Moffitt, Life Elder and WWII veteran worked together to raise the United States and Christian flags.
It is our prayer that these flags waving in front of our bethel will be a testimony to the community that our love for Christ causes us to serve others: friends, neighbors, community, country and world in His name.
